EVENTS: Six Lymewalks throughout California to raise awareness and research funds; if you’re not local, you can be a "virtual walker."

28th August 2010

2010 CALDA Lymewalks are planned for San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Ukiah and Humboldt County, California in September and October. The events will help raise the profile of Lyme disease in our state and raise money for Lyme disease research.

September 18, Noon-3 pm

September 25, 10 a.m.

Ukiah, CA

Meet us at Harrison Grove picnic area in Low Gap Regional Park. It’s a short distance up the hill from the parking lot and bridge. Wear green, or better yet, wear your CALDA "Ticks Suck" T-shirt (we’ll have some for sale on site – $17/ea.). Those of us who are able will make the easy hike (great views). Others can sit in the covered picnic area until we get back. Bring food and drink to share. For info, contact pmerv@hughes.net.

September 25, 11 a.m.

Sacramento, CA

Sponsored by Lyme Support Sacramento. We’ll gather at a group picnic site at McKinley Park (601 Alhambra Blvd.) at 11 a.m. Bring your own picnic lunch, and if you like, something to share with the group.  For more information, email saclyme@gmail.com.

September 26, 1 p.m.

San Francisco, CA

Meet 1pm at the corner of Larkin & Fulton, next to the Main Library. (Civic Center BART/Muni station). Easy sidewalk route around the Civic Center area, dogs welcome, follow-up slideshow/discussion at the Main library, cafeteria food and drink available, post-walk pet owner education outside. Wear lime green, bring signs and green balloons. Refrain from wearing scents. For more information (or to offer help with event) contact sf_seal@sbcglobal.net.

October 3, Noon to 3 p.m.

Santa Monica, California

Palisades Park runs along the Pacific Ocean and is adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier. There is a walking path and picnic areas. Pack a lunch to relax and eat together after the walk. For more information, contact lymebarb@aol.com.

October 16, 8 a.m. to noon.

San Diego, CA

Join us at Embarcadero Marina Park North (near Seaport Village) for an easy walk (or roll) for Lyme Awareness. We’re scheduling it early in the day to get live TV coverage just like we did last year! Contact maritza@plant-people.com.

Whether or not you can join us in person, you can help raise money for Lyme disease research.

Here’s how it works:

You make a personal fundraising page on the 2010 CALDA Lymewalks website. (There’s no cost to you and we’ll show you how to do it.) You set a fundraising goal. You use the page to tell your Lyme story. You can use photos, words, video — whatever helps you best show why raising money for the struggle against Lyme disease is so important to you.

You send the link to your family, friends, colleagues — anybody you think can help you reach your goal.

If you like, you can make a fundraising team. Members of your Lyme support group, church, club or other organization.

People who want to donate will click on your link, which will take them directly to your personal page. They will make a secure donation to CALDA by credit card. (It’s tax deductible.) A "fundraising progress" thermometer on your page will show how close you are to meeting your goal.
