Public health officials are warning people to be especially wary of ticks this summer after a child’s infection was traced to ticks in a brushy area of Folsom.
Six of the 30 ticks trapped around eastern Sacramento County were later found to be infected with tularemia, which can cause a lingering sore at the site of a tick bite, along with chills, fever and other symptoms.
Tularemia is easily treated with the right antibiotics, said Dr. Glennah Trochet, Sacramento County’s public health officer.
