TOUCHED BY LYME: Lyme advocates use Facebook to make global statement
When Liz Schmitz, of the Georgia Lyme Disease Association, used Facebook to locate other Lyme advocacy groups, she not only found scores of them in the United States, but a significant number in other countries. Among nations she found represented on Facebook are Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Poland, Australia, France, Germany, Greece, Norway and South Africa.
“Facebook is a powerful networking tool,” says Liz, “and Lyme advocates from around the world are using it to disseminate information and share experiences.” She found different kinds of groups, working in various ways. Some advocate for patients, hold support meetings, organize political demonstrations, or raise money for research.
She has posted links to these international groups on the Georgia Lyme Disease Association webpage, encouraging others to show global support by becoming fans of these groups.

My daughter and I were bit by deer ticks while hiking near our home in Carmel Valley, CA. We were both diagnosed with Lyme Disease 6 months ago.
I want to join everyone to help create awareness and raise funds for more research!

I love your page and the things you are doing. I feel like the more of us sharing our message, the better.
I just currently made a Facebook page, which has a link to my blog so I can raise awareness for my state and start a foundation to help people who can’t pay for treatments. I also want to get a bill passed in my state just like Virginia stating just because the test comes back negative, DOES NOT MEAN you do not have Lyme. There are so many things I want to do for awareness that my mind is constantly racing with ideas!!
I would love the support and appreciate it so much if you shared my facebook page to your followers. I would love more than anything to help so many people in need.
Thank you so much!
Jenna
