NEWS: Lyme race car voting is over–still waiting for word
The final phase of voting for in the Toyata Sponsafier contest is over.
Announcement from “After the Bite”:
Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car
Update May 3, 2011- The second (and last) public voting period has ended. Thanks to you, the Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car was not only number one in the ‘Most Votes’ category in the first round, it was selected by the judges to be one of the Top 10 Finalists and for that we were awarded a race car helmet! We do not have information concerning the number of votes our car or others received in the final round of public voting.
On May 2, 2011 the ‘Winner Determination’ phase started. Judges will now select the grand prize winner from the Top 10 finalists. The name of the winning car will be publicly announced and the design will be displayed during the week long events at the All-Star Races in Charlotte, NC. The races are on May 20 and May 21, 2011. (Perfect for May Lyme Disease Awareness Month.) You can watch the race and presentation on SPEED Channel.
Usually, there are a lot of commercials throughout the week and during the races telling viewers to go to the Toyota Sponsafier website where they will see the cars. During a normal race weekend there have been at least 2-4 commercials and race show announcers mentioning the contest. Our car and its message have been well advertised (free publicity) for several months, even prior to a final winner has been determined.
We do not know if the grand prize winner is notified of the win before hand, however, we will update you as soon as possible if we hear any news (assuming we are permitted to do so?).
The 2011 Racing Lyme Disease Awareness car was entered in the Toyota Sponsafier contest in honor of Dr. Charles Ray Jones of New Haven, CT and his “kids” with Lyme disease. After it makes the publicity tours to help raise Lyme disease awareness, the winner’s helmet with the Lyme disease awareness design on it, will be on display in Dr. Jones office where visitors, parents and his kids can enjoy it.
Thanks again for supporting the Racing Lyme Disease Awareness car and our community’s efforts to get the word out there to the public about Lyme and tick-borne diseases. You are a winner!
