An update on LymeX–the search for a better Lyme diagnostic test
The LymeX Diagnostics Prize is a competition to accelerate the development of better tests for active Lyme infections.
It’s a collaboration between the US Department of Health and Human Services and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation.
The LymeX competition offers cash prizes alongside a range of non-monetary resources.
It is designed to stimulate the market for Lyme disease diagnostics by helping entrants overcome diagnostic development barriers with prize funds and technical assistance—while also fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Phase 1 of the project selected 10 teams. Now in Phase 2, those teams are working on submissions to be judged by an expert panel in October 2023.
To mark Lyme Disease Awareness Month, LymeX has published the following interviews with each of the 10 teams:
How Virginia Tech is homing in on a unique molecular biomarker for Lyme disease
How Tufts University is using short-lived antibodies to identify Lyme disease infection
How T2 Biosystems Inc. is utilizing miniaturized magnetic resonance technology
How Serimmune Inc. is applying machine learning to at-home diagnostics
How Massachusetts General Hospital is utilizing genetic sequencing for diagnostics
How InBios International Inc. is using machine learning to improve disease detection
How HelixBind Inc. is translating sepsis diagnostics to Lyme disease
How George Mason University is identifying Lyme biomarkers through urine
How Drexel University College of Medicine is studying protein and sugar compounds as biomarkers
How BlueArc Biosciences Inc. is advancing low-cost diagnostics
