The costly burden placed on the Lyme pediatrician by the state of Connecticut expires March 16. Yet, financial struggles threaten to close his practice before then.

A letter from Dr. Sheila Statlender:

Dr. Jones’ financial situation is very critical.  More donations are needed right away. Cancellations due to bad weather have added to an already dire shortfall.

Donations in response to the last alert helped to stave off the immediate crisis, but fell far short of the estimated $20,000 Dr. Jones still needs in order to keep the office running.  If you have been thinking of donating, this is the time.  If you have already donated, Dr. Jones is very grateful, but please consider supporting him again, in any amount that is possible for you.

P.S.  As you consider this request, please remember that the heavy burden of the four-year monitoring requirement, imposed by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board, is due to end very shortly on March 16.  It would be awful to have come this far, only to have Dr. Jones’ office close now due to financial struggles!  The demands of the monitoring
have created tremendous stress for Dr. Jones and his staff, both financial and otherwise.  Dr. Jones has done so much to support Lyme literacy and our children, and to prevail against those who have targeted him.  Our support is vital to his spirit and to the reality of
what he is dealing with.

Some of us are working with Dr. Jones, hoping to develop a long-term plan for dealing with his remaining challenges. He has needed to take time off to take care of some non-life-threatening medical issues, and still faces cataract surgery. Nearly 85, he remains vital and committed to his practice, working 6 days a week, presenting at conferences, etc. He deserves to cut back, but it has not been possible to meet the expenses of running his office on a part-time schedule. The targeting by the CMEB has made it impossible to bring in a colleague to ease some of the burden.
