Mobile billboard circling IDSA conference in San Diego
When the Infectious Diseases Society of America opened its annual conference in San Diego yesterday, attendees were greeted with the sight of a mobile billboard sponsored by LymeDisease.org. The truck, bearing the message “IDSA Lyme Guidelines destroy lives. #GetItRightThisTime,” will circle the convention center throughout the conference.
Friday and Saturday, the truck will be joined by Lyme patients and advocates who are protesting the IDSA’s harmful Lyme treatment guidelines, which make it difficult for people to get properly diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease. (9 am to 3 pm, both days.)
#GetItRightThisTime refers to the fact that the IDSA is reviewing its Lyme guidelines. Alas, from all indications, it looks like the group WON’T get it right this time. Click here for more information about why we protest against the IDSA.
Three advocacy organizations–LymeDisease.org, the Mayday Project, and the San Diego Lyme Disease Support Group–are co-sponsoring the protest.
At 6pm Friday evening, Oct 9, there will be a candlelight vigil to honor those who have died from Lyme disease. There will be music, speakers, and the West Coast dedication of the traveling Lyme Quilt.
All events will be across from the San Diego Convention Center, at Harbor Drive and Fifth Avenue. Click here for more information.
We’re also using Twitter to circulate a picture of the billboard:
