Recruiting for two studies of gestational Lyme disease
If you’re pregnant and were recently diagnosed with either acute or chronic Lyme disease, you may be eligible to participate in a paid pilot study led by Dr. Sarah Mulkey at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C.
The research team is currently enrolling pregnant volunteers to follow their pregnancies and the neurodevelopment of their infants through age 18 months.
The study is open to anyone in the United States and Canada. You do not need to travel to participate and you will be paid for your time at each study visit. The study includes questionnaires, one fetal MRI and ultrasound, one infant MRI and ultrasound, two in-person neurology evaluations, two blood draws, and personalized feedback about your child’s development by a child neurologist at no cost to you.
By joining this study, you can help researchers and providers learn how to better treat and protect future babies and children exposed to Lyme disease in utero.

Second study
Help researchers understand how Lyme disease during pregnancy impacts families.
We know that patients with chronic conditions may experience pregnancy and parenting differently than their healthy peers.
Researchers at Children’s National Hospital are looking for parents from the United States and Canada who had Lyme disease during pregnancy for a paid research study. The purpose of this study is to understand the lived experiences of people who had Lyme disease while they were pregnant.
If you join the study, we will collect information about you and your child(ren) using an online survey and an interview. Your participation will last about two hours.
Want to join? Fill out the screener here or contact Meagan at mewilliams@childrensnational.org or 202-476-3388 for more information.
