Medical gaslighting is a form of manipulation that occurs when a patient’s symptoms, experiences, or concerns are dismissed or invalidated, leading them to question their own perception of their health. It can have very serious consequences for people with acute or chronic Lyme disease, including:
- Patients are not properly diagnosed or dismissed outright
- Patients may not receive adequate treatment.
- Patients may experience psychological distress, anxiety, depression, and trauma associated with medical gaslighting.
