BOSTON—The state’s interim health commissioner claims budgetary and policy concerns are the reason the Department of Public Health cannot sign a stalled Lyme disease report.
In a letter dated Tuesday, Interim Health Commissioner Lauren A. Smith said the Department of Public Health cannot endorse the Massachusetts Lyme Disease Commission’s report because it includes specific recommendations that affect state agencies represented on the commission.Ms. Smith said that while the Department of Public Health “supports and celebrates the majority of the report,” it is obligated to reject it.
