Let’s give a hand to Volkman–a little thank you can go a long way
Sometimes someone does something so wonderful. Really! Something so wonderful that you have to stop, take a breath, exhale, and look again. In this world, the world of patients with Lyme disease, it happens rarely. And, when it does, we need to acknowledge it, and, more importantly, we need to acknowledge those who do the right thing no matter what. When someone outside this community steps up to bat for us, well, we should just stop what we are doing and give thanks. Here is my thank-you to Dr. David Volkman. (p.s. you can write one too)
Dear Dr. David Volkman:
I want to thank you for your submission to the IDSA panel. For many years scientists have been silenced in this debate. It is a bit astonishing what happens when one group has unfettered power and the ability to put the lid on careers.
What it takes to blow that lid off is steadfast honesty in the face of opposition. I have been working on the IDSA antitrust action for three years. It is my passion project. My hope was to create a space where an honest scientist with courage could walk into the room and dispel the myth that the science on Lyme disease is a closed book.
You are the man who walked into the room and spoke truth to power.
Thank you.
Lorraine Johnson, JD, MBA
