Last minute push to put Lyme funding in NY’s final state budget
Three New York state senators today joined Lyme and tick-borne disease advocates from across NY in a virtual press conference.
The final state budget, slated to pass by April 1, currently contains no new funding to combat Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Senator Sue Serino says this “defies logic.”
The coalition urged legislative leaders to invest at least $1.5 million for research, education, and prevention initiatives.
“With only days to go before a final budget is expected to be voted on,” Serino said, “we are asking our colleagues to do the right thing, ensure that the voices of New Yorkers who live with these devastating diseases are heard, and include significant funding to help put an end to the Lyme and tick-borne disease epidemic in the final state budget.”
