Leaked document recommends slashing CDC’s Lyme funding to zero
According to a leaked budget document obtained by the Washington Post, the Trump administration is seeking to deeply slash budgets for federal health programs.
Among items on the chopping block are all CDC funding for Lyme disease and chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as the LymeX program, which seeks to develop better diagnostic tests for Lyme disease.
The document also recommends getting rid of programs related to heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.
According to the Post, the proposal would cut the CDC’s budget by about 44 percent, from $9.2 billion to $5.2 billion, and would eliminate all of the agency’s chronic disease programs.
The document hasn’t been presented to Congress yet, so it’s not a done deal. The Center for Lyme Action is preparing a way for the Lyme community to respond. Stay tuned.
