CDC budget cuts affect Lyme disease research at Fort Collins
In a February 20 Facebook post, Dr. Richard Horowitz relates:
“Many of the epidemiologists at the CDC in Fort Collins, working on tick-borne diseases were just fired. According to my inside sources, they were given 4 weeks pay and kicked out two nights ago. And the ones who are still there can not speak at Lyme conferences, travel, spend any money, and had to get exemptions for food for their animal studies.”
In related news, CBS Colorado has reported on one CDC worker terminated this week, research biologist Joe Cardiello. He and his team have been working on a groundbreaking new way of using CRISPR technology to detect Lyme disease sooner.
