Lyme took her ability to walk. She’s suing for medical malpractice.
Investigative journalist Mary Beth Pfeiffer has been following the case of Julia Bruzzese for years. Now, in a comprehensive article, Pfeiffer examines the events that brought Julia to this point.
In a Facebook post, Pfeiffer gives background:
Nearly a decade after a tick bite ended her childhood and her ability to walk, Julia Bruzzese, 19, is looking for a kind of justice that eludes many very sick Lyme patients. She is suing for medical malpractice, which I report in my latest article.
The goal is to hold accountable a medical system that denies and misconstrues the horrific potential of Lyme disease. I loved telling this story.
Known to many as the central figure in the documentary “The Quiet Epidemic,” Julia looks forward. She is in college. She can no longer dance but has developed other skills, as a make-up artist for one. She is a quiet, determined hero who wants no child to go through what she did. She is doing what she can. I will follow her case, which will take time but is promising.
