Editorial: Government should take some advice on Lyme
When it comes to tackling the vexing issue of fighting Lyme disease, the federal government can use all the good advice it can get.
Its response to date has been callous and lacking. There is no question that since Lyme was discovered in 1975, the medical community has struggled with how to handle the disease. In ways, government officials — not only on the federal level but through the states as well — have exacerbated the situation.
They have continued to rely far too much on guesswork to determine the number of those afflicted with the disease. And doctors actually have been threatened with sanctions and other penalties for treating Lyme aggressively, even though the medical community and government have no clear consensus about how to proceed. These outlandish trends have to stop.

This is so true,,I was bit by a tick,,long before 1975 @ I was a very sickly kid,,,ughhhh. Who knew back then,,,my parents,they did all they could,,but no one knew,,,but today,,there is no excuse,none what so ever,,,it has to start& stop somewhere’s . I am the one who slipped thru the next time,,I was treated for flu,after flu,,everyone knew ,I had a bacterial problem,,,the medical Dr.s,,they missed the sight of inflammation,when I had an attack of severe high blood pressure ,,I told them it felt like a mushroom,popped out of my head,,I was numb& tingles from my waist down,,,they told me it was anxiety,,,but all of my organs,they were screaming in pain,,as per my blood work,,but they were looking for a heart attack or a stroke,,do just ignore the inflammation ,,,let the buck stop here,,,we need a total make over of our health care in this country,,overseas,,they in cooperate holistic meds,,,that is where I turned& along with the diet, I was able to get myself standing up,,,not for like always,,because,as soon as we feel better,we take things for granted,,food,,it is like a drug,,we have too many commercials,,that shove processed food & just plain junk,,& it is the downfall of most all health conditions in our country,,,veggies,,real ones,,not crap,,,as fresh as we can get,,,,but the sweets in our country,,,no one tells us ” You’re blood, it is going to turn to acid,,,you will eventually break down& with Lyme ,along with many other diseases,you will be a really sick & sorry person,,time to listen to us,,all of us,,,it is already an epidemic ,,they do not or will not open the mind, to this reality,,,,wait till it is your little one that can not get better,,it will stress you to the max,,,or your sister,mom.,or yourself,,,then it is still just a tiny voice,,,someone,,,has got to step up to the plate,,,& make it affordable,,the tests for Lyme,,they are outrageous, & unfair, it needs to have some way to be available& affordable,,,or it will reach total epidemic out of control porportions,,,,Please,,help everyone,, it is way past time,,,
I’ve suffered with Lyme since 1967.
So unfair that I can’t get treatment because doctor’s are afraid of losing their license to practice if they treat Lyme with I.V. antibiotics.
