Tick-borne babesiosis proves fatal for woman in Maine
A resident of Maine, 80-year-old Arlene Crabtree, passed away in June after a delayed diagnosis of tick-borne babesiosis.
Her daughter Deborah Crabtree gave the following account to a Maine TV station: ”My mom was diagnosed with what we thought was a UTI. So, she was on antibiotics for it, but she was only able to take like two doses because she couldn’t swallow, and I took her to the ER and because she couldn’t swallow the antibiotics, but I knew it was something different because she got all shaky.”
According to Deborah, by the time her mom was diagnosed with babesiosis, “it was a little late for the medicine at that point. And she died two days later.”
