NEWS: Vote for the Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car
A Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car design has been entered in the Toyota Sponsafier contest. The winning car will be featured at the 2011 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race this summer, an opportunity for nationwide publicity for our cause. Help this car win by voting on-line. Read here for details.
Here’s information from "After the Bite," sponsor of this year’s Lyme Awareness Racecar:
Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car!
The race is on! You can help educate others about Lyme disease by voting for the Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car. We have 15 days to get as many votes as possible! You can vote once a day by clicking the link below. It is easy, free and no registering is required.
Last year over 78,000 cars entered the Toyota Sponsafier contest. Our Lyme Disease Awareness car came in 15th place (with almost 8,000 votes) and remained on display for a couple of months where it was seen by countless people! Cars with the highest numbers of votes in the first round this year will be featured again in the final round where they will be displayed even more prominently.
Our theme this year is “Get it Right, Treat the Bite!” We want to encourage people to think about Lyme disease when they are bitten by a tick and to seek medical care immediately. Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichia, Bartonella and a host of infectious organism can be found in ticks, so why wait? After all, prevention is the best medicine!
This year our driver is Michael Waltrip– two time winner of the Daytona 500. With him behind the wheel and you at the voting pole each day, we should do quite well! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Waltrip
Be sure to click on the 3-D view of the car and see the tribute to Dr. Charles Ray Jones (on the roof). Our Lyme Disease Awareness efforts this year are dedicated to Dr. Jones and his wonderful staff for all they do to help the children who suffer with chronic Lyme and tick borne diseases. We are also celebrating Dr. Jones 82nd birthday this month- March 14, 2011. If you don’t know Dr. Jones’ story please visit the site dedicated to him, his staff and his precious kids. www.DrJonesKids.com
Aside from raising Lyme awareness across the internet, the winning car (grand prize) will be featured at the 2011 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race this summer where it can be seen by millions of fans via television coverage and news reports. The winner will also receive a prize package of Toyota Racing Gear and be honored with a visit from a (real) NASCAR driver. Should our car win, all prizes will be donated to individual(s) dealing with chronic Lyme disease.
For more information check out the “Racing Awareness” page at www.DrJonesKids.com Please feel free to share this announcement with your email, twitter and face book friends (see sample posts below). Encourage them to vote for our Racing Lyme Disease Awareness Car!
We are making history!! It only took us five days to vote the car into 10th place, out of maybe 30,000 car designs entered, with 10 more voting days to go!! Which means – drum roll, or tire roll, please – that we are going to surpass all other car votes there, by two to three times over, and maybe come in with the largest vote they've ever seen! For those of you seeing this in time, go to http://www.sponsafier.com/#/gallery/view/46869 – click on the Vote circle once daily. Come join us at http://www.lymenet.org if you'd like to enjoy the conversation about the vote.

That's one vote per day from each computer. Vote from your laptop, your desktop, your office computer, the computer at the coffee shop, your Blackberry, your neighbor's computer, etc. You'll be surprised how many opportunities you'll find to vote.

I'm in support of finding a cure for Lyme Disease.
Following up here – we made history!! The Lyme car is currently in first place with 14,234 votes, double the 2nd place car with 6891 votes!! Thx to all who put out the word to the various Lyme sites asking everyone to vote once a day for the car and tell others to do the same! It was fun, and easy for Lyme patients to do. We are now waiting to see if the car gets selected by judges applying five judging categories to be in the final ten for voting upon. Also, a second car made it into 10th place, with a message to cure late stage Lyme disease.
