Working to reduce the impact of tick-borne diseases in Virginia
In 2023, Virginia convened a working group to study and make recommendations for reducing the impact of tick-borne diseases in that state.
The panel, composed of public health officials, academic experts, patient representatives, and other stakeholders, held five meetings throughout the year.
That group’s report to the governor is now available to the public.
It includes recommendations in the following areas:
- increasing public awareness of tick-borne diseases and strategies for preventing tick-borne diseases;
- educating health care providers and the public about the importance of and need for early diagnosis and treatment of tick-borne diseases;
- improving public health surveillance and data collection related to tick-borne diseases; and
- developing and implementing strategies to reduce tick populations and reduce the risk of exposure to and transmission of tick-borne diseases in the state.
