Yolanda Foster’s ongoing health crisis took a toll on her marriage to David.
The couple, who announced Tuesday they will be divorcing, began growing apart following the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star’s diagnosis with Lyme disease, a source tells PEOPLE.
“Things really changed in their relationship as Yolanda got sick, and then when her health worsened,” the source tells PEOPLE. “David travels all the time and they simply weren’t spending any time together.”
David, 66, and Yolanda, 51, were wed at fairy tale wedding on Nov. 11, 2011. Yolanda was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012 and has spoken out about the challenges she’s faced, including at one point losing the ability to read and write because of the illness. READ MORE.
Very sad
Lyme Disease is serious stuff and needs the support and understanding of loved ones, friends and most important your spouse. My husband married me for better for worse, for richer , for poorer. Yalonda, I am sorry your illness did not make your marriage stronger. I am an advanced Lyme Disease suffer and it got real bad when I got bit by a deer tic, again. Young lady. You take care of yourself. I just want you to know. Please seek a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor if you haven’t already. I am doing so much better at this time. Take care! Deanna Thomas May on FB.
I am so extremely sorry for Yolanda. Such a fine lady. It seems the whole world deserts you when you get Lyme. I can name one famous lady whose husband never did desert her. I did not even realize what she was going through for years, and when I read Aannette Funicello’s story, I nearly died with sorrow. Her husband stuck by her until the very end, always honoring her. Yolanda is as much a lady inside and out as Annette was. I will continue to pray that Yolanda has a better life from now on. She has done a lot of pioneering work for herself and the rest of Lyme victims.. She can hold her head high, very high. I will applaud Yolanda as long as I live; actually that may not be saying much, since I am a long-time Lyme victim. God bless Yolanda, and may she live forever. If you can say that for kings you can say it for this Royal Lady.
If he couldn’t stand by you in your time of need then it wasn’t meant to be. Chin up, beat this rotten disease and find a new husband that loves you for all times.
Seems some guys just can’t handle it when their wife gets sick. I read a statistic that among married heterosexual couples, when the guy gets a serious disease, the divorce rate doesn’t change. But when the woman gets sick, it goes way up. Lyme seems to be the one that breaks couples up the most.
Some of the comments to this story on people.com were just awful. People were accusing her of making up her disease. They couldn’t understand why she wasn’t getting better. They couldn’t understand how she could be sick when she seemed well in public. They said she was doing it for attention. Goes to show how little people know about Lyme.
I hope both Yolanda and Avril can find real men who are able to stick by them.
For better or worse? Apparently those words mean nothing. I wish Yolanda the best. God will take care of David.
